Description
Major changes are on the horizon for PKI environments. Microsoft Server 2016 is reaching end of life, enforcement of strong certificate mapping begins in September 2025, and ADCS continues to evolve with recent updates. In this 30-minute PKI Insights webinar, we’ll break down what these transitions mean for your organization, what steps you should be taking now, and how to avoid missteps that could impact your security and compliance. We’ll wrap up with a live Q&A session hosted by PKI Solutions’ Managing PKI Consultant, Jake Grandlienard.
Webinar Recap
In our August PKI Insights webinar, we tackled the theme of PKI in transition. With Windows Server 2016 nearing end of life, many PKI environments still rely on it, raising the urgency to plan migrations. We emphasized why moving directly to Server 2025 can help future-proof systems and avoid the pitfalls of delayed upgrades.
We also unpacked Microsoft’s upcoming enforcement of strong certificate mapping on September 9, 2025. Organizations relying on smart cards are most at risk if mappings aren’t in place, and failures could prevent logons overnight. Practical guidance on reviewing domain controller logs and addressing issues now rather than waiting for patch day was also covered.
The conversation also explored new ADCS updates, the evolving hardware security module (HSM) landscape, and changes from the CA/Browser Forum that affect how enterprises manage certificates. We closed webinar closed with a Q&A covering strategies for preparing environments, budgeting for hardware refreshes, and strengthening PKI resilience against today’s threats.
