Twelve years ago, PKI Solutions was founded on a simple idea:

Here we are, 12 years later, and that still has not changed. But the stakes absolutely have.
From Grassroots to Growth
Mark B. Cooper, also known as the “The PKI Guy,” founded PKI Solutions on April 1, 2014, with the goal of helping organizations safeguard their PKI infrastructure. Through a combination of consulting, assessments, training, and now a robust software solution in PKI Spotlight, what began as a grassroots consulting business has become the founding pioneer of PKI Posture Management according to Gartner Research.
With more organizations leveraging PKI Spotlight, we are growing more than ever.
PKI is More Important than Ever
As we look back on the last year, one theme has appeared again and again across our client work, training, and PKI Insights webinars:
PKI is not failing because it is broken. It is failing because it is invisible.
Organizations assume it is “just working” until a CRL expires, a pen test misses a critical flaw in a CA, or a cloud or HSM dependency fails in a way no one anticipated. These are not edge cases. They are patterns.
As we discussed in our recent year-in-review, most PKI issues are entirely preventable, but only if you can see them coming.
The last 12 months have brought meaningful changes to the PKI landscape. Strong certificate mapping enforcement is no longer theoretical; it is breaking authentication in real environments. ADCS is evolving again, with changes like CRL partitioning and improved auditing. Post-quantum planning is no longer a future conversation; it is starting to influence architecture decisions today. Organizations are also learning that PKI as a Service doesn’t live up to the hype – it only solves a small part of the problem at a much higher cost.
And through all of this, one thing remains true:
Greater visibility into your PKI reduces risk. Monitoring gives you the insight needed to identify issues early and prevent them before they become outages or security events.
A Year of Growth for PKI Solutions
As we continue through this year, our focus has not changed, but the way we approach it has matured. We are growing our team, with new roles at every level of the company. We are expanding our footprint, with plans to move to a new office in downtown Portland to support our growing team.
As we grow, we have not lost focus on what matters: providing our customers with the best possible service to support their operations.
Our goals are clear:
- Help organizations move from reactive firefighting to proactive visibility
- Bridge the gap between “it works” and “it is secure and resilient”
- Prepare teams for what is next, not just maintaining what exists today
Because the reality is that PKI has always been foundational. Now it is becoming operationally critical in a way organizations cannot ignore.
